DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Vernon Ho Yuen\, Ophthalmologist\, for an upcoming CME sessions on cataract management in primary care. \n\n\n\nParticipants will earn 1.5 Mainpro+ credits from this session. \n\n\n\nThe deadline to register is Friday\, May 15\, 2026. \n\n\n\nContact us to registerPlease contact pmh@burnabydivision.ca to register for this CME session. \n\n\n\nAbout Dr. Vernon Ho Yuen \n\n\n\nVernon was born and grew up near Toronto. He completed medical school at the University of Toronto\, residency training in Ophthalmology and a Masters of Health Sciences at UBC and 2 years of fellowship training in Oculoplastic Surgery at the University of California Los Angeles and the University of Ottawa. He worked as a subspecialist in Oculoplastic Surgery in Halifax\, Nova Scotia\, then as a rural Ophthalmologist in Cranbrook BC.  \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, Vernon moved to Burnaby\, where he now works with the Ophthalmic Surgeons group at their offices in North Burnaby and at Metrotown\, and does surgery at Burnaby Hospital. Vernon loves living and working in Burnaby and is delighted to have an opportunity to present to the Burnaby Division of Family Practice. \n\n\n\nBDFP CME offerings

SUMMARY:Burnaby Experiential Learning Session
DESCRIPTION:The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs)\, a partnership between Doctors of BC and the BC government\, are hosting a Community-Based Experiential Learning session in collaboration with Len Pierre Consulting on Wednesday\, June 3\, 2026 from 5:00-9:00 p.m.at the First Peoples Gathering House in Burnaby\, BC. \n\n\n\nThis session provides cultural safety and humility teachings through immersive learning and provides opportunities for ongoing relationship-building with Indigenous communities. \n\n\n\nDuring these sessions\, physicians will experience: \n\n\n\n\nCultural safety teachings through an immersive\, “circle and the box” learning\n\n\n\nTeachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communities\n\n\n\nA shared meal\, language\, history\, and stories\n\n\n\nA deeper understanding of residential school trauma.\n\n\n\nConnections with local health staff and providers.\n\n\n\nThe opportunity for ongoing learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note that space is limited to 60 participants. \n\n\n\nSessional time\, dinner\, and mileage exceeding 50 km one-way are provided. We welcome registration from interprofessional team members (ITMs) who make up team-based care and offer a stipend to ITMs who are not salaried. \n\n\n\nWe are grateful to hold this session on the unceded\, ancestral\, and traditional territory of the Səlilwətaɬ Nation and the shared territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Kwikwitlem First Nations. \n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet involved with primary care in Burnaby \n\n\n\nProviding primary care can be complex.
